The official Twitter account for the Ragin’ Cajuns tweeted that it had partnered with Sonic to bring you the first-ever (I can’t actually verify that) college football burger.
That’s right, Sonic stores in the Louisiana area are now featuring Ragin’ Cajun burgers, which,according to a school release, feature “Tabasco Brand spicy mayonnaise and a packet of Tony Chachere’s creole seasoning is included as a lagniappe. Kickin’ Cajun fried onions and pepper jack cheese will complete the unique flavor profile of the Ragin’ Cajun burger.” Oh, and there’s also an edible Louisiana-Lafayette logo on the top of the bun.
Now it looks like a sticker, but the university ensures that it is an edible imprint on the bun making it the first-ever edible collegiate logo baked into a hamburger bun. The only possible problem is that the logo has limited visibility, you know, because you eat it.
“Every year, we get requests for use of the Ragin’ Cajun trademark, but this is the most unique opportunity we’ve had to promote the university and our team,” UL coach Mark Hudspeth said in a statement. “Ordering this hamburger is a great way to show support for our team and I know that I will have one every week to get ready for the upcoming game!”
But don’t think Louisiana-Lafayette is alone in this venture. The San Antonio Express-News speculated that since Sonic headquarters are based in Oklahoma City, schools of the Big 12 might be next to see their logos on top of their favorite cheeseburgers.
